DIESEL EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGY
The Diesel Technology Course is an overview of diesel mechanical operations and the repair of all the components of medium and heavy duty diesel trucks and equipment.
The program is designed to prepare students for further diesel technology education or to work in the field as an entry level technician. Hand and power tool use is taught as well as theory of operations of the various systems of equipment including computer systems. Graduates learn the necessary knowledge and skills to function as a Diesel Technician.
WHAT ARE THE CLASSES ABOUT?
Identify problems, often by using computerized diagnostic equipment
Plan work procedures, using charts, technical manuals, and experience
Test parts and systems to ensure that they work properly
Follow preventive maintenance checklists to ensure that all critical parts are examined/repaired
Perform basic inspection and maintenance, including changing oil, checking fluid levels, and rotating tires
Repair or replace worn parts, such as brake pads, wheel bearings and sensors
Perform repairs to manufacturer and repairs to clients verbally and in writing
WHAT SKILLS WILL STUDENTS LEARN?
Learn how to repair and maintain a diesel engine, support systems, electrical systems, chassis, and engine controls
Operate the hand and power tools associated with those tasks in a safe manner
Learn how to weld, cut conduct preventive maintenance, inspections, tune ups, and troubleshoot problems
Students will also perform several “hands-on” activities including working on different equipment ranging from medium to heavy trucks, tractor trailer, light trucks, heavy equipment, forklifts, and other construction/industrial type equipment in order to receive more experience and a level of comfort with the equipment. Academic work in class will include: curriculum-based training from a vetted text along with quizzes and performance/written tests dealing with the standard that will be taught.
WHAT CREDENTIALS ARE AVAILABLE?
Students can test for an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Entry-Level Student Certification in five areas and OSHA-10 Certification.
