PCS Roadmap to Responsible Return

One of the most unique school years on record ended in June, and the start 2020-2021 school year is quickly approaching with a student start date scheduled for September 8, 2020.

The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) released their WV Schools Re-Entry Toolkit to guide districts across the state in their pursuit of planning a safe and responsible return to school.

On August 3, 2020, the Putnam County Board of Education approved Putnam County Schools Comprehensive Guide to 2020-2021 Re-Entry, Roadmap to Responsible Return.

Putnam County Schools presented students and their parents/guardians with two curriculum delivery re-entry options for the 2020-2021 school year through diligent planning from multiple directors, administrators, re-entry work groups, and school families and community members. Option one is the 5-Day (in-person) Model. Option two is Putnam County Virtual, our virtual/distancing learning model.

Our goal in planning, along with student and staff safety, was to provide two accommodating options to our families and staff. We know that families are the best advocates for their students and their needs. Putnam County Schools respects choices made regarding the education of our Putnam County Schools’ students.

We want to thank you for your patience, understanding, and flexibility as Putnam County Schools continues to persistently navigate the fluidity of the COVID-19 pandemic relating to the 2020-2021 school year.

As always, our top priority remains the safety of our students, staff, and families. We are grateful for the collaboration and unity that we continue to witness in our outstanding school community. Once more, we believe that we will launch a safe and successful 2020-2021 school year in Putnam County by working together as a team.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The guidance in this document is subject to change as additional information about the spread and prevention of COVID-19 is known. School re-entry and continued operations are guided by the metrics developed by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (WVDHHR), public health officials, and Governor Jim Justice and implemented by the State Department of Education. If COVID-19 cases rise to the levels outlined in the School Re-entry Metrics and Protocols, counties must be prepared to implement stricter protocols, curtail extracurricular activities and/or alter learning plans.
