Twenty years ago, the United States endured one of the most inconceivable tragedies in our country’s history. On Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, we remember and honor every life taken too soon. Each year we remember the bravery of our first responders, service members, and citizens who unwaveringly answered the call of duty. Their sacrifice and courage embody the American spirit and resilience, and their heroism inspires new generations. Each year we remember how we came together, united, we renew our vow to never forget. #PatriotDay2021 #September11 #PutnamProud

Putnam County Schools (PCS) has released its comprehensive guidance for students’ return to school on August 24, 2021, within their Roadmap to Recovery return to school guide which can be found here: https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/1450488/PCS_Roadmap_to_Recovery_2021-22.pdf The PCS Roadmap to Recovery was developed utilizing guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local health officials, the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) School Recovery and Guidance. Face masks will be strongly recommended but not required for Putnam County students. Currently, the best public health prevention strategy to end the COVID-19 pandemic is vaccination. In cases that require quarantining, students who have been vaccinated do not have to quarantine. Additionally, in classrooms or close contact settings, the close contact definition excludes students who wear a mask. The guiding principles in the Roadmap to Recovery outline various mitigation strategies that will be in place as students return. Superintendent John Hudson believes that all students learn best from in-person instruction and can do so safely when various mitigation strategies are implemented. He continues to be very grateful for the collaboration and unity in the outstanding school communities in Putnam County. Currently, PCS is working with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources regarding screening and testing options that may be available for students. PCS will continue to work collaboratively with the Putnam County Health Department (PCHD) to conduct contact tracing and to monitor community spread. To view the full PCS Roadmap to Recovery guidance document, please visit www.putnamschools.com. ⭐️Reminder to students who are 12 years of age and older and their families registered for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine through the recent PCS survey⭐️ The CDC approved the use of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine in kids as young as 12 on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, and US health advisors also endorsed the use. Additionally, the American Academy of Pediatrics urges the Pfizer vaccine for kids 12 and up. Putnam County Schools has partnered with Fruth Pharmacy to host a vaccination clinic this Friday, May 14, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hurricane High School for any student 12 years of age and older. Family members that registered for the vaccination will be able to obtain the Pfizer vaccine at the same time as the student(s). If you did not complete the initial PCS survey but would like your child to receive the vaccine, walk-ins will be accepted from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. You may register on-site at HHS. Additional Reminders: ✅ Present an insurance card when checking in at the vaccination clinic. ✅ All students must complete a consent form, and a parent/guardian must be present with any student 12-15 years of age. 📝 Note: Your school office has the consent forms to be completed prior to the vaccination clinic. The consent forms may also be obtained on the PCS website (located and linked on the home page bulletin board) at www.putnamschools.com. 🗓 The follow-up vaccination clinic will be held on Friday, June 4, at HHS from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

As we begin to see winter weather advisories affect our region, we would like to outline three potential scenarios Putnam County Schools will implement during inclement weather events. PCS Inclement Weather Procedures for Schools If a Two-Hour Delay is called: • Each school will open (2) hours later than the normal hours of operation. • Professional staff and service personnel will report to their school locations (2) hours later than their normal arrival time. • Each bus route will be delayed by (2) hours using the 2020-2021 bus schedules that have been in place since September 2020. • Students will report on a (2) hour delayed schedule per school level. • WVVS students will follow the daily schedule in place. If an Onsite Remote Instruction Day is called: “Onsite Remote Instruction = Students Remote – Staff Report” • Professional staff and service personnel will report to their school locations (2) hours later than their normal arrival time. Bus operators and bus aides will report to their assigned schools utilizing the same procedures in effect for the 2020-2021 school year when Putnam County Schools have been operating remotely. • Buses will not operate for any students. • No students will report to school. This includes those students who previously reported when PCS was in remote status. However, remote instruction will begin for students two hours late. • Families should review their child's Schoology account for school bell schedule and further instructions. • Curbside meal service will be offered at each school utilizing the same hours in effect for the 2020-2021 school year when Putnam County Schools has been in remote status. Buses will run main roadways only for meals that have been requested by families. • WVVS students will follow the daily schedule in place. If an Offsite Remote Instruction Day is called: “Offsite Remote Instruction = Student Remote – Staff Remote” • Students will not report to schools. Remote instruction will begin two hours late. • Teachers will begin instruction 2 hours late from home/remote location. • WVVS students will follow the daily schedule in place. Families can find information regarding their student’s schedule(s) in the event of a remote instruction day due to inclement weather on Schoology as well as their school’s website. For further questions on PCS’ inclement weather procedures and scenarios, please contact your student’s school.
