Today your child will bring home a paper copy of the Student Daily Health Assessment. Please make sure you keep a copy of this on hand at your home, and please assess your child every morning before sending them to school. While we understand that many illnesses are prevalent right now, the number of cases of Covid in our region are also at a high level. Please help us to stop the spread of all types of illness and keep all of our kids healthy by referencing the Student Daily Health Assessment Sheet each day. Thank you!

Good evening Hurricane Town! Thank you so much for a wonderful first day of school! We appreciate your continued patience while we implement our new drop off and pick up procedures for car riders. As with any new procedure, time and practice will help work out the kinks! A few things you can do to do to help speed up the process... 1. Practice buckling and unbuckling seatbelts and restraints with your child so that they can be ready to quickly and safely exit the vehicle when it's their turn. 2. Make sure your child can carry their own backpack, water bottle and lunchbox and be sure that they are ready with those items when it is time to exit the vehicle. 3. Keep the lane in the front open for bus arrival and allow all buses to enter the flow of traffic when exiting the lot. 4. Please keep interactions with staff on duty to a quick and friendly greeting and we will do the same with you. If you need to talk in detail with a staff member, please call or message us so that we can dedicate the time needed to your questions and concerns. Thanks again for your patience and help as we ensure the safety of all students at Hurricane Town! Have a great evening!

On Friday, February 12, 2021 all Putnam County Schools will dismiss 2 hours early to allow staff to receive second round Covid-19 vaccinations. If you are a parent, grandparent, or family member who picks up their child at the end of school each day, please be reminded that parent pickup location is at the end of the building nearest our 4th grade classrooms. This is the end of the building that is closest to the parking lot exit. While students exit the building from multiple doors due to Covid precautions, parents are encouraged to follow social distancing protocol and wait for their child at the 4th grade end of the building. Please do not come on to the sidewalk or walk between buses to pick up your child. Thank you for following this procedure to ensure the safety of all of our children.

Good evening! Just a few reminders for those of you who plan to return to in person learning on Tuesday, January 19. Hours at Hurricane Town will be the same as they were at the beginning of the year. Doors open at 8:00am and dismissal is at 2:50pm. For the safety of all students & staff, we will not be allowing visitors into the building & we will not be accepting outside deliveries or drop-off of items. We will have an abundance of staff outside each morning to help children into the building. It would be helpful if you could tag their backpack with their grade level and/or teacher's name as well as bus number. Bus info can be found on the PCS website. Please make sure your child knows how they will be getting home at the end of each day. Sending a note to the teacher on Tuesday with this information would also be helpful. Friendly reminder that YMCA will not be reopening their aftercare program at our school at this time. The lunch menu is available on our website & on the PCS Connect app. If your child is ill, in quarantine, or experiencing symptoms of Covid-19, we ask that you do not send them to school. Please follow the "Should I Come to School?" checklist on our school website, or the guidance found on PCS or WVDE websites to screen your child at home each morning. As always, if you have questions, please reach out to your child's teacher or call the school. We can't wait to welcome our students back on Tuesday! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Please be aware of the following reminders from HTES. *Unfortunately, visitors are not permitted in the school, so parents will not be able to walk students into the building on the first day. K-2 teachers provided backpack tags to be attached to your child’s backpack indicating their name, grade, and mode of transportation home. Please remember to use this tag, it will be essential for staff who are escorting your child into the school from your car or from the bus. It will also be essential for us to know how to help your child at dismissal. *If you have not sent back your child’s emergency card and health information sheet, please do so on their first day of school. *Please have your child bring their ipad fully charged to school with them. These devices will be used daily in classrooms. *Doors will open for student drop off at 8am at HTES. *Students and staff will be required to wear face coverings at all times. We encourage students to wear their own face mask from home. However, if your child does not have a face mask, we are happy to provide one. *Please complete the daily home health screening checklist with your child each morning before coming to school. If your child is displaying symptoms of Covid-19, has had close contact with an infected individual, or is currently under quarantine or isolation due to a positive test, please do not send your child to school. Please report any of this information to the school as soon as possible. We look forward to welcoming our in person learners back to school!

Putnam County is currently yellow on the WVDE school map. This means that students enrolled in the 5 Day In Person Learning Model may begin attending school in person starting Monday, September 28. Face coverings will be required at all times. PCS families who opted for virtual learning will continue as planned. PCS will implement the staggered re-entry plan for students in the 5 day model for all in-person learners in grades PreK-12. More information in the staggered re-entry can be found on the Putnam County website and will be posted on Hurricane Town’s website. PreK does not attend school on Friday.

Hurricane Town is excited to announce that we have received ipads for all students in grades 3, 4, and 5. We will host a drive thru ipad deployment for grades 3-5 on Friday, September 25 from 9am-1pm. Please note that this deployment is for virtual and in person learners. Those who are registered as virtual learners will need to return the previously issued temporary laptop and charger in order to receive their ipad. Those who are registered as in person learners will need to sign paperwork before receiving an ipad. Thanks and see you Friday from 9-1!

Anyone who attends the drive thru tomorrow is welcome to return any completed work or necessary forms (emergency cards, etc.) It has come to our attention that many students may not have had the opportunity to return last year’s textbooks that were borrowed when school was closed back in March. If you have any books from last year we would appreciate it greatly if you would return them. Please make sure the child’s name is on all forms, papers, and books that your return. Thank you so much!

Putnam County is currently red on the WVDE School re-entry map. We will continue to operate remotely for the school week beginning tomorrow, Sept. 21. HTES families who registered as virtual learners will continue as planned, and lunch distribution will continue daily from 10am-12pm. We will host a learning packet drive thru pickup for grades 3-5 and Pre-K tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 21 from 10am-12pm. If you missed ipad distribution last week for students registered as in person learners in grades kindergarten, first, and second, you may also drive thru tomorrow from 10am-12pm for pickup. As always, we thank you for your cooperation during this time of remote learning. We have enjoyed seeing you as you drive through for lunches, packets, and ipads. We look forward to the day we can all be back together learning in our school again. Until then, stay safe Hurricane Town!

Good evening! In person learners who picked up learning packets should continue to check Schoology this week as well. Teachers are planning Teams meetings throughout the week for continued check ins with students and to assist with lessons as needed. We understand that not all students who chose in person model have access to devices or internet. For this reason, students will not be penalized for not participating on Schoology this week. Discussion and lessons in these teams meetings will mirror work provided in the learning packets as much as possible. However, we also understand that many are able to access and we would like to provide opportunities for in person students to participate virtually if possible. Please remember to use the web address Putnam.schoology.com. Students log in using Office 365 credentials. We are so appreciative of the support parents are providing their children during this remote learning experience, and we are so proud of how hard our students are working. Thank you for being our partner in educating your child and for all of the understanding you’ve shown school staff. Have a great evening!

Good Morning Hurricane Town! Putnam County remains orange on the state's color coded re-entry map. This means that we will continue with remote learning for the week of Sept. 14-18. Virtual learners will continue with their lessons online just as they did last week. Those who had originally signed up for the 5 day in person model will again be provided learning packets by their teacher. Packet pickup for grades 1-5 students who had originally chosen in person learning will be drive thru style tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 14 from 10am-2pm. Pre-K will not receive packets as they begin school on Sept. 21. Kindergarten work packets will be provided to parents via email. Lunches will be offered to all who would like them again at HTE this week. Daily curbside style pickup will be from 10am-12pm. If you need a lunch delivered, please call the school before 10am and we can arrange for delivery. PCS has established a technology help line to assist with device issues and Schoology. The hotline will be available Monday-Thursday from 4:30pm-8pm. Please call 304-586-4946 for the Technology Support Hotline. Thank you and have a great day!
